Citrus County Roof Inspection – When is it Time for a New Roof?
Never underestimate how important it is to perform yearly check-ups on your home. A roof inspection should be at the top of your to-do list. Why? Because your roof is the first line of defense for protecting your family from extreme weather conditions. If you wait until a leak is detected, it may already be a much larger problem and much more costly.
Know When to Schedule a Citrus County Roof Inspection
The most obvious time to schedule a roof inspection is after a severe weather event when you suspect there may be damage. Although, this shouldn’t be the only time. General contractors suggest inspecting your home’s roof at least two times a year.
Homeowner versus Professional Inspections
If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, call a professional roofer to do so for you. If you decide to do it yourself, check for loose or curling shingles; soft spots; shingle granules in your gutters; loose material around your chimney. If your roof is less than five years old and you’re not seeing any leaks inside the home, you should be fine inspecting it from the ground. If you have suspicions, it’s best to hire a roofing professional to do a thorough check. On the other hand, if your roof is 10 years old or more, you should definitely call a reputable roofer to check it out. Your insurance company may cover the cost of some of your repairs. At that point, your insurance agent will call a qualified inspector to examine your roof.
A Roof’s Lifespan
A roof’s lifespan can also depend on the materials your roof is made out of. For example, asphalt shingles last around 20 years; slate, copper and tile roofs last around 50 years; and wood shake roofs last 30 years; and cement roofs generally 25 years. It’s always best to inspect your roof twice a year or after the first sign of wear and tear after a storm.
